HIV Testing

HIV Testing at Northside Clinic

HIV can be tested for by a blood test. At Northside Clinic, the test result can take up to 1 week to come back. Your Doctor will advise you as to how you can receive your result.

Remember that there is a “window period” for HIV. This means that it can take a certain amount of time before your test becomes positive after being exposed to HIV. Generally the window period for HIV is 6 weeks, although in some high risk cases, it may be up to 3 months. Your Doctor may recommend a repeat test at a later date if you are not outside the window period.

If you test positive for HIV, a confirmatory test will be performed to be sure the result is accurate. Further testing will be done to assess your CD4 count, viral load (amount of HIV virus in your blood), and various other checks.
