Some people choose to modify their voice when they transition.
Oestrogen therapy does not alter the voice, and some people choose to attend for voice feminisation.
Testosterone therapy lowers your voice, but often not to the same pitch as other males. Some transmen report ‘vocal fatigue’, a difficulty in projecting their voice when on hormone therapy.
Speech therapy referral can be organised by your GP at Northside Clinic. Services include voice feminisation, voice masculinisation, or techniques to assist with vocal fatigue. If you smoke, your voice may not be modifiable with speech therapy. We have a speech therapist at Northside Clinic or can refer to the La Trobe Speech Therapy / Voice Clinic in Bundoora.
